The celebration of the traditional agricultural crop took place on October 13-14 at the Havlíčkův Brod cultural house Ostrov as the professional seminar Potatoes 2017, organized by the Czech Potato Growers Association (ČBS) in cooperation with the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic and the Potato Research Institute Havlíčkův Brod, already in its 27th edition. Besides the exhibition of potato variety samples combined with their tasting, companies related to potato cultivation and trade were also presented on site, including producers and distributors of nutritional and protective agents for this crop.
In this important segment, the company Rokosan s.r.o. was represented through Zymax s.r.o. by engineer Zdeněk Dominik, who is our distributor.
The seminar was attended, among others, by the Czech Minister of Agriculture Marián Jurečka, the governor of the Vysočina region Jiří Běhounek, and the chairman of ČBS – Miloska Chlan. According to Mr. Chlan, despite very good yields this year in the Vysočina region, potato yields in the whole Czech Republic (617 thousand tons) recorded a 12% decrease compared to last season due to drought damage. More than 2 billion Czech crowns will be allocated from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic for damage compensation, but an important aspect of prevention should also be nutrition and plant protection, including preparations based on amino acids, as is the case with products from the company Rokosan.
An interesting and stimulating fact also for our Slovak conditions is that ČBS, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, launched this year a campaign called "Potatoes – Healthy Vegetables" aimed at convincing consumers that domestic potatoes have comparable or even higher quality than imported ones. (In 2016, the Czech Republic imported over 200 thousand tons and exported 44 thousand tons of potatoes).
Besides official presentations at the seminar, informal meetings took place in the foyer with representatives of growers and breeders, scientific institutions, as well as the general public, who were interested in amino acid fertilizers from the Slovak manufacturer – the company Rokosan.
