Onion cultivation has been practiced in this village since time immemorial, not only in households but also at the local agricultural cooperative PD Madunice. Onion is one of the basic commodities in the kitchen. Onion is a tradition that connects all generations of Madunice residents. The celebrations reflected this spirit – an onion record, an onion parade, a music program, and fireworks.
The company Rokosan also accepted the invitation to this event and contributed material prizes on the occasion of creating the onion record – specifically the creation of a model of an onion shaped like a globe made from 5671 onions, as well as the announcement of the most beautiful balcony and front garden in the village. Gardeners from Madunice and the surrounding area, thanks to the local and district organization of SZZ, know the Rokosan brand and can appreciate the quality of a local producer.
We gladly accepted the invitation of Mrs. Mayor Mgr. Alena Jelušová, who was involved in the creation of this event 23 years ago, and we believe that future editions will bring new ideas and the enthusiasm of Madunice residents to maintain the tradition of the Onion Festival – the only one of its kind in Slovakia.
