Garlic Festival in Buchlovice

28. 07. 2018

Despite the tropical heat, more than thirty garlic sellers sold their garlic and garlic products at the Garlic Festival, who, according to the organizers' data, brought over seven tons of the best domestic Czech, Moravian, Silesian, and even Slovak garlic to the town under Buchlov Castle, so everyone could really choose. Various garlic competitions created a cheerful atmosphere and fun – for the most beautiful and largest garlic bulb, garlic braids, and many others – such as the opportunity to taste garlic ice cream, refresh yourself in a garlic shower, garlic snacks, etc.

A long queue for garlic formed not only in front of the individual entrances but also in front of the stalls themselves, specifically in front of the stall of Mr. Ján Kozák from Pobežovice near Holice in Pardubice region, who has been engaged in growing and especially breeding garlic for over three decades. "I have been using garlic almost daily for years, but I must admit that it is only exceptionally that I forget to take it. My wife says I wouldn't have to eat it at all," he adds with his characteristic humor. He does not hide that thanks to garlic he is healthy and it also serves his ten children, who follow in his footsteps in the family company Česnek.cz. Mr. Kozák welcomed the opportunity to test our products in the next season, especially Rokohumín liquid and Rokoaktív on his varieties, and listened with interest to the overall advantages and benefits that Rokosan brand products bring. We met with the same interest among other growers as well as visitors who truly care about the authentic and genuine taste of all cultivated crops, not just garlic.

As one of the main organizers, engineer Miloslav Hrdý, stated: "The center of Buchlovice - the square, adjacent streets, the castle area smell 364 days a year and on the 365th day D wonderfully 'stink' of garlic."

Finally, perhaps an appropriate motto in Czech: "Jakub, Jakub, (25.7.) buy garlic. On your name day Evžen (10.11.) it is hard to get." Yes, it is so, in November it is already difficult to get garlic, which is why now is the best time to visit markets in your area. Surely you will also choose if you missed it this year in Buchlovice.
